How to Get Unstuck
Inertia is serious business. The laws we learn from our early years in school about objects that are unmoving stay in place because it requires more force in order to get those object(s) moving against the forces of gravity which are quite happy to keep the object (in this case, you and I) rooted to the spot.
I believe that in order to gather the force necessary to make the change from inertia, from no movement to movement, is to first recognize that you’re stuck. Now it’s time to make some promises to yourself and then act on those promises.
Often when we look at our situation, we see we are here, but that we want to be over there. There is this tremendous gap, or should I say a chasm appears, which is so vast we are immediately intimidated and poof, there goes the force we need to make the change from inertia to movement. So, how do we scale the chasm? Take baby steps, my friend—baby steps.
First, promise yourself to M.O.V.E. Create an acronym for the word MOVE. Something you can place on a sticky, a notepad, or draw into a beautiful picture to help motivate yourself. So for me today I may say that M.O.V.E. stands for Motivate Others through Virtual Encouragement. I believe that is what I’m doing right now. So promise one is being fulfilled right away. This is the preparation needed to begin gathering the force that is required to get unstuck.
Now, gather that force and make your next promise—S.T.A.R.T. You can’t finish something if you don’t first start it. So maybe S.T.A.R.T. could be—Start Telling About Rough Times. Often we get stuck when life strikes at us and abruptly halts our forward motion. Maybe we lost our job, or maybe we found out that we have a new and scary health issue, or maybe we are losing someone near and dear to us. Once we look for and find what has halted our progress, we could journal it or tell someone else about it. This will become the beginning of gathering the force that we will use to propel us from our inertia.
Now that we have first promised ourselves to M.O.V.E. and we have a S.T.A.R.T. point, we will promise ourselves to F.I.N.I.S.H. (Finally I’ve Now Initiated Self Help). We need the F.I.N.I.S.H. to complete gathering forces because this is what will complete our movement from inertia.
Now that you are moving, let’s keep the wheels greased and be someone else’s S.P.A.R.K. You create your own acronym for that word and share with us or others, please. Your way of thinking, your knowledge, your way of sharing and caring is unique and you will speak to at least one person who needs your S.P.A.R.K. today and every day!
