I’ll Raise You A Prompt

As a kid, what was your favorite way to spend a weekend?

“Again?” I whined. It was another idyllic summer day, and we were out in the left pasture, literally. Yeah, I’m a city kid, but one of my best friend’s lives in the country and when school let out for summer, they invited me to visit and stay as long as I liked. Out in the country I couldn’t turn a complete circle without seeing another farm or a farm animal. “I don’t want to do it today.” I tried to whine a little less.

“Really?” My best friend, Zohe, asked with that totally ‘I don’t believe,’ you look in her eyes.

“Yeah, really, but I promise to do it tomorrow. I’ll even agree to your time. Which would be…?” I asked, trying not to sound as interested in the answer as I was. I enjoyed learning things I couldn’t do in the city, but I was still uncertain about getting on that pony so I could learn to ride a horse which of course is bigger—baby steps. I didn’t know how I would convince myself that it would be okay. I knew I was too tired and uncomfortable to try now.

Although there was one thing we did that I was totally enjoying and if it was up to me, I’d be out there already. Maybe I could come up with a fake scenario that would make them go investigate, so I could get everyone there to play with me. I perked up as a bunch of fresh ideas bombarded me. I couldn’t wait to get back out to the back fields, way back. This is where we act out our very own Nancy Drew tales. JuJu always picks George, although to be fair she really looks and acts like George, but I want to play that part this time. As I continued to daydream of our play acting, I knew that eventually we would get back out there to play again. That is what I love best of all—well, that and they have amazing food, too.
