Today’s Writing Prompt – Well, Day 217 ’cause I like this one.
217. Waterfall: Think of a waterfall you’ve seen in person or spend some time browsing photos of waterfalls online. Write about the movement, flow, and energy.
As we wound our way down the curving road, after parking the car, our ears and eyes had our heads bobbing and turning left and right trying to catch the sounds of the birds, the dappled dancing shadows of trees and their leaves, the distant roar of the water as we drew nearer. My steps quickened as I closed the distance to the beach. People were everywhere and all I could hear was a muffled cacophony of laughter and talking all around. I spun in a circle, laughing and throwing my arms up in the air, twirling my towel around me as I turned back to hurry my family along.
“Hurry, we want to get there before that large group behind you beats us there.” I stated, while waving my hand to hurry them along. Finally, we were at the epicenter. As I stood in the shallow water, it enthralled me, the beauty of the turquoise water stretching to my left. I felt the eddy swirling around my legs, and I looked down in consternation as I felt the cool water on my calves, but a warmer current moving in the opposite direction by my feet.
“Mom, do you feel that?” I asked her.
“Yes, you remember, this is where the fresh water meets the sea water.” She explained.

“Let’s line up. I can’t wait much longer, mom.” I fought not to whine at her. With renewed provocation, I jumped out of the shallow waves and turned to my right and looking up, barely holding back my squeal of excitement. In just a few quick minutes, we would have our guide. This wasn’t my first time here, but every time was just like the first. Up ahead was a multi-tiered series of rocks with rushing water flowing into every crevice and nook. This was no ordinary place, but one that many people from around the world came to see and explore. If we wanted to make our way up the falls, then it was necessary to wait for a guide for our personal safety. There were many hidden dangers, but if you knew where to go and what to look for, there were also a series of fun slides and mini waterfalls throughout, creating some of the best fun, ever.
It was as magnificent as I had remembered, maybe even more so because each time I came I was a little older and more able to appreciate everything. The guide carefully directed us as to exactly where to step and then when we reached a special spot the guide showed us, then we sat down and shouted in surprise as we swooshed down a mini fall and into a shallow pool. This, of course, required that we had to climb back up to where the rest of our party waited so we could continue exploring up and up and up—until we reached the pinnacle. Ah, the view…

Have you ever been to Dunn’s River Falls, next to Ocho Rios in Jamaica?
Let’s continue to grow in compassion, caring, and love together.
