Present… Again?

I’m uncertain what’s happening with the title word today – Present. I have come across this word at least twice in a brief span of time and from two unrelated sources.

So, I look at this word and it’s a word that just makes me stop and stare at it. Along with that is a monologue taking place in my mind. I see a present. Don’t you love to get a present? I also feel the urge to raise my hand and say, “Here.” Just as if I was still in school and don’t ask me how long ago that was—

Then I also just want to take the word apart–> pre — sent. Well, I’ve been pondering this word for a day or two and then it popped up again. I think I just have to make a brief story about my present…

“Thanks, Daddy,” the little girl piped as she hopped in place, barely able to keep her seat while she waited for her father to place her birthday cake close enough she could blow out all her candles. Lilly knew she was a big girl now, she turned five today.

With a big gulp of air, Lilly blew with all her might and then her eyes grew as round as saucers. She wasn’t going to make it! But with an extra grunt for good measure, the last candle gave in to a wisp of smoke.

“Yeah,” Lilly said excitedly, clapping her little hands. “Can I have a piece now, please Daddy?” She squirmed and wriggled with excitement. She felt like she had been waiting forever for her birthday to come. It was her favorite day of the year… well, today was anyway. And she knew what came next. Her presents! Lilly almost forgot to take a big bite of her first present and bestest cake ever. It was a Nanaimo Bar Cake, and she didn’t know where her parents got it from. All that mattered was it was her first of many presents on her birthday and she couldn’t wait to get to the next one.
